Group Disability Income Insurance

What It Does For You

Disability Insurance can provide peace of mind and remove uncertainty in the case of an accident or illness that leaves a person incapable of working.

What are the benefits

Group Disability Income Insurance will ensure that your employees will receive a continued regular stream of income even when totally disability occurs.

Amount of Disability Coverage

The disability coverage that you can provide is determined as a percentage of your employee's annual salary.

This disability coverage excludes any director's fees, overtime payments, commissions or bonuses.

When is Disability Benefit payable

The Disability Benefit is paid to your employees if they are totally and completely incapable of engaging in their own occupation or any other occupation - for which they are suited by reasons of training, education or experience. And in addition, it they must not be engaged in any other occupation.

The Disability Benefit is payable if the Disability occurs as a result of injury or sickness.

When do the Disability payments stop

The Disability Benefit payment will stop immediately should any one of the following events occur:
• Upon the recovery of the employee from such disability
• Upon the employee attaining the termination age of the cover
• Upon the death of the claimant (employee)

Who is eligible

All full-time, active employees of the Company aged between sixteen (16) and sixty (60) next birthday are eligible. Eligible employees should have fulfilled the waiting period requirement, if any.

Worldwide cover

The cover is twenty-four (24) hours world-wide without any geographical limitation.

The Disability Benefit is payable only for the first 6 months of absence from Singapore should disability benefit becomes payable under the following conditions:
• The employee becomes disabled whilst outside of Singapore and becomes entitled to the benefit.
• The employee leaves Singapore whilst receiving the disability benefit.

What is not covered

War (declared or undeclared), any warlike operations, military or naval services, strikes, riots or civil commotion; or

Any illness, condition or disability which existed before the start of his cover; or

Suicide, attempted suicide or self-inflicted injuries, regardless of the Insured Member's mental condition; or

The influence of alcohol, narcotics, drugs unless administered by a medical Practitioner; or

Air travel, other than as a fare-paying passenger on a licensed commercial aircraft; or

Pregnancy, childbirth or prenatal or postnatal care; or

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), or any AIDS-related condition or infection by any Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Limitations

Limitations of benefits
The Disability Benefit that is payable together with any other similar disability insurances/ claims will not exceed the percentage of the employee's annual salary insured (eg. of other similar disability insurances payable - workmen's compensation)

Proportionate benefit
The Disability Benefit that is payable together with any other similar disability insurances/ claims will not exceed the percentage of the employee's annual salary insured (eg. of other similar disability insurances payable - workmen's compensation)

An amount of proportionate benefit shall be payable if:

The employee whilst receiving the benefit, with the consent of the Insurer, engages in an occupation other than their own occupation, provided the employee's earning is less than the earnings in respect to his occupation immediately prior to his disablement; or

The employee whilst receiving the benefit, with the consent of the Insurer, returns to his occupation on a part-time basis and suffers a loss of earnings.

Rehabilitation benefit
A reduced disability benefit will be paid and this amount will be proportionate to any reduction of the employee's annual salary:

If the employee whilst receiving the benefit, with the consent of the company, returns to their occupation on a part-time basis and suffers a loss of earnings.

Linked claims
The employee's disability claim will be deemed to be a continuation of the current disability if:

The employee whilst receiving the benefit, returns to their prior occupation (before being disabled).

And the employee again becomes totally disabled from the same or, in the opinion of a Registered Medical Practitioner, a related cause.

And if this disability occurs within a period of six (6) months from the date of such return.
